First of all congrats! I too blended athletics with my college course load and learned a lot of things the hard way. Here's my best advice:
1. Take the opportunity to set up a regimen that allocates enough time for your academics that won't interfere with the sports schedule. If you can get yourself into a routine you'll be well ahead of the game when it comes to your schoolwork.
2. Make sure to overlap on the same calendar your practice/game schedule with ALL of the major requirements of your coursework. You will inevitably find that there is a major assignment due the day after a tournament/away game. If you're able to see the overlap you can plan how to overcome and AVOID a major cram session when you return to campus after the game.
3. Student athletes (and all athletes) have access to tutoring resources in the event you need help outside of the class. Don't be afraid to take advantage of this! You can also make a study group with your teammates to take advantage of the "down time" when you're on the road to games.

Getting an opportunity to extend your athletic career into college is amazing. It shows your commitment to excellence and elite performance. My son recently graduated from MIT while playing offensive tackle for the football team.

The biggest challenge as a student athlete will be in balancing your academics and commitments to the soccer team. Practices, individual conditioning, and traveling to away games will all eat into the time required to be a successful student.

Time Management - If you don't already have a tool or calendar that you are familiar with, become familiar with one and get super organized with your time commitments and assignments.

Friends - Make sure you you surround yourself with people who are motivated to be their best. Having a study group who is committed to doing well will help keep you organized and on track.

Communication - Make sure that you notify your professors on day one that you are on the soccer team and any conflicts that are on the sylabus. Knowing that you will miss classes, labs, assignments will make them a little more understanding.

Good luck !!!
