What is the right thing for a college freshman from a non-target school to do to in #Spring25 to be able to enter the Finance world, either in Investment Banking or in Private Credit #Spring25?
#Spring25 I am a Boston University Freshman and I am looking for Finance jobs in the summer. I am involved with a few organizations in school, but that still doesn't make Boston University a Target school for the finance world. So, what can I do now that would make me stand out in the industry?

Hi Matei, that's a fantastic question! While I'm not in finance right now, I did study it during my undergrad and master's programs. I suggest applying to as many internships as you can to get started. It might be tough, but beginning in an entry-level job at a bank and seeking networking opportunities could be a great way to enter the finance field. Keep pushing forward, and you'll find your way!

As you start your sophomore year, take some time to explore which area of finance excites you the most. Even if you're not at a top-tier school for big investment banks, you can still become a strong candidate by the end of the year.
Visit your career development center and connect with alumni working in Private Capital or Investment Banking. Boston University has a vast network, especially in big cities where banks have major offices.
Learn about the different parts of the finance world, the clients they serve, and what makes each area interesting.

Agree with the other commenter, the most important thing is going to be getting experience. It also depends on what you want to do in Finance. Do you have a specific path you’re interested in?
