What is one thing that helped you transition from a high school student to a college student? Especially if you're moving far from home

i have a 3.1 cumulative GPA and love to play basketball and socialize. I've also had the same job at papa Murphy's for almost 3 years now.

Hey Jesse,

I would say to lean into your interests. You like basketball and socializing. recreation basketball is a great way to meet people. People played basketball in my colleges gyms from open to close so I would say lace them up and just go get in on games on a regular. Eventually someone will want to go eat or do something else. the relationships you'll gain by just being there and playing will likely last you at least your college career if not your life. Many people from your dorm or class will likely be there as well so you'll get to know them better.

My "thing" was getting out and trying something new. There is a lot to do on a college campus so learning a new thing or 2 was how I ended up with friends in nearly every major and walk of life in my time in college.

Jasmine’s Answer

Hi Jesse,

I also moved far from home when I went off to college. I think the biggest piece of advice I can give is staying organized while also balancing your interests. Going off to college school and study time are going to have to take priority but I think if you can find a way to schedule in study time throughout the day so you have completed both assignments & readings for your school material you will also find time to have fun. A lot of this has to do with being able to organize yourself and scheduling study blocks in the week so you can have free time on the weekends. It sounds weird but also having a job helps with this since you already are used to having some sort of schedule with your time.

A tip for moving to a new place, don't be afraid to say hi to people, try new things, and learn what works for you!

Best of luck!

SAHIL’s Answer

Hi Jesse,

I recommend joining groups that match your interests. Finding your community and hobbies on campus is important. Consider joining a club or a dance group. You'll meet many new students like yourself, and I'm confident you'll soon feel at home.

Best of luck!
