One of the best things about college is making your own schedule. In elementary, middle, and high school, you have the same hours every day, like 8am to 3pm. College lets you be flexible and focus on what interests you. You can join the school newspaper, chess club, chemistry club, or play a sport. These activities help you meet new people. Joining a club related to your major is helpful because you'll gain contacts and experience in your field.

The best thing about college is finding out who you are and what’s important to you. It's not just about the classes, but also about the friends you make, the challenges you tackle, and the new things you try. College is one of those rare times when you can explore what you like, take chances, and grow in so many ways, academically, personally, and socially, all in one place. You’re shaping your future, making memories, finding your voice, and learning how to live life your way.

Hi there,
The best part of college is the freedom to explore new experiences and discover who you are! You get to meet people from all different backgrounds, try new activities, and really start building your independence. It’s exciting to choose your own schedule, join clubs that match your interests, and make lifelong friendships.
Since I go to UMD, one of my favorite things to do is head into DC with friends—whether it’s exploring museums, trying out new restaurants, or just wandering around the city. There’s always something happening, and it’s a great way to take a break from campus life.
I also love going to games and student events—the energy at football and basketball games is amazing, and it’s a fun way to feel connected to the school spirit. Plus, UMD has tons of student activities, like festivals, concerts, and club events, which are great for meeting new people.
When I just want to relax or do something low-key, I’ll go on little adventures around campus or nearby nature spots. Sometimes it’s as simple as a spontaneous trip to a new coffee shop or hanging out at a park. Going out with friends, whether it’s to study or just have fun, is always a highlight of my week.
The best part of college is finding that balance between studying hard and making the most of your time by exploring and creating memories. You’ll find your favorite spots and routines as you go—just make sure to take advantage of all the opportunities that come your way!

Great question! Even though I'm out of college now, I really miss the friends I made and the fun times we had together. Remember, one of your college friends might become a future CFO or CEO. Staying connected with them can help you use what you've learned in college to build a successful career. Keep those friendships strong!
