What are some of the downsides of being a chef?

I am a student of Oak Harbor High school in Ohio and I was considering becoming a chef, so I'm trying to get some extra information before I make my decision.

Hi (again) Gabriel-

So the downsides of being a chef

1. Work life balance. Chef life can be all encompassing. Between the grueling hours and then the artistic/development side sometimes the job gets in the way of life

2. The hours. Holidays, late nights, weekends. It can get tough

3. The toll kitchen life can take on your body. Cooking is grueling on your body

4. The Stress - even the calmest kitchen can get stressful. Managing stress in a healthy way can be challenging

I love being a chef but it is a profession not for the faint of heart.

Hi Gabriel,
I think it´s great that you are seeking for advice before making your decision. I would advise you to take into consideration that chefs usually work long shifts including weekends and holidays so it´s important to take that into consideration. So you need to think in your work-life balance.
