Mike’s Answer

Hi Sophia,
That is a great question. To be honest I couldn’t even answer it until I googled macroeconomics. I’ve never even heard the word macroeconomics let alone knew the definition.
As I’ve sat here and thought of an answer for you, it made me realize how this is a good question for me personally and my life. Maybe answering that question for my life and the “macroeconomics” of my life, if you will, could help to answer your question. I’ve done masonry as a career and while it’s a good honest job that can meet my needs financially, it can be hard work and I don’t always enjoy laboring out in the cold or heat or physically laboring period. Especially as I’ve got older.
Economies are generally very resilient because they have to be. We rely on our economy for our countries wants and needs. Hence the need to study macroeconomics
You and I personally have wants and needs in our life. We also will face many struggles. But even during struggles we still have those wants and needs. So to meet my needs, especially during struggles, how do I remain resilient?
In life being resilient means dealing and getting through hard times so that I can remain happy and productive in life. To do that I need to know my purpose, or have an idea of what my purpose here is. For me that’s many things. I’m blessed to be a father. I have to and want to raise my kids so I have to be more resilient just because of them. It’s my responsibility and they are a huge part of what gives me purpose. Not everyone has kids though. I also like helping people. It gives me purpose. I want to be a good example and role model and be someone who makes my community and world a better place however I can. I also want to be happy in all i do. So I have to find and do what makes me happy. That’s many things I’ve realized. So doing what makes me happy is part of my purpose too because if I am not happy it’s not easy to stay resilient. Now without trying to get religious, because what I am going to say next has nothing to do with religion, but to give you some food for thought to help maybe open your mind or think in other ways…when I didn’t know what my purpose was and as I’ve struggled in life and didn’t know what to do I cried out to God for help. Well I actually cried out for Him to kill me. I really needed help. Fortunately He didn’t kill me, he found me. He showed up in my life. Not that He had lost me or left me, but He revealed himself to me so I could see Him in ways I would see Him and did see Him. It’s been crazy! But it’s made me want to know Him more. In learning about who God is, what he’s done, and having a relationship with Him a lot of my old ways of thinking have died. He’s helped me see the bigger picture and want to know I guess the macroeconomics of my life and my thinking and of life in general. That has given me purpose for sure. Wanting to lead people to God gives me purpose too and had helped me realize I have lots of purposes. We all do. It’s made me happy again too, most of the time. Being happy about having purpose helps keep me resilient in life.
With all of this, I know that eventually I’ll find the right job or jobs for me too regardless of the job market or people in it. Sorry about the novel of an answer, it’s there for you to shortcut and do some simple things to avoid doing things the hard way as I have.
Simple answer: Don’t put all your eggs in one basket. You could do many jobs. Explore everything including the world, places and people. Try new things and don’t be afraid to do them different than anyone else does. If it fails, you’ll learn. Learn from your mistakes. Find and do things you’re interested in and more importantly what makes you happy. Do what makes you happy. When you can do what makes you happy it won’t feel like a job. At the same time, try to do things that help others or improves life of others or our world and our lives in this world. Big or small it doesn’t matter. If you keep doing that you can’t go wrong. These are all simple things you’ve probably heard. Keep things simple. Don’t complicate things too much or worry about the macro whatever’s until it becomes necessary or is your job. Find your higher power. Speak to it, acknowledge it. Stay open minded and aware that there absolutely is one. You might not believe it’s God, I do, and if you call on Him he’ll answer.

Hello Sophia,

I know that it seems very difficult with the way are country is right now. I would say to focus on your school work, focus on what you can control, be the best version of yourself, increase the skills you have and work to earn money. These are tips that I would suggest for students right now and I know that it is difficult because i'm also a current student. We just have to be resilient, patient and focus on what we want to achieve in life. Hope this advice was helpful!

Sri Laasya’s Answer

Hi Sophia,

That's a great question and I find myself asking this everyday too. AI is another revolution, technological this time, similar to how we had Industrial Revolution and other attempts at taking big leaps in the number of years an effort would have taken if it were done in the same manner.
That said, it's natural to make us a little apprehensive about what's to come and the uncertainty it brings.

However, all companies in the past that didn't adapt the emerging tech foudn themselves falling behind even when they were the leading partners in the industry at the time. AI is inevitable, specially at this stage - In many ways, it's useful too. But keeping AI ethics at the forefront of every AI advancing conversation will ensure safe approaches are made.

Tips: 1. Some things that work for me is to take other parts of your work/ personal time a little slowly to not get carried away in the hustle of manual jobs turning into automation every second.
2. Upskill: Get AI related certifications to not fall behind and be caught up on exactly what is happening in the space.

Hi Sophia. There are many ways students can stay resilient and prepare themselves for long-term success. The key is to stay adaptable, keep learning, and show both technical and human skills that employers value.

You need to build a mindset of continuous learning. The world of work is changing quickly, and the skills needed today might not be the same tomorrow. By keeping an open mind and a willingness to learn, you can stay ready for any opportunity. This means taking time to explore online courses, workshops, and certifications that improve your digital literacy and problem-solving skills. Learn about AI and data, but also develop your communication, teamwork, and creativity.

It's also important to gain practical experience. While grades and degrees are important, hands-on experience shows employers that you can apply what you've learned. Look for internships, volunteer projects, part-time jobs, or even personal projects where you can use your skills in real situations. For example, build a small app.

You should also network and build connections. Many opportunities come from people you meet along the way. Attend career fairs, workshops, and online events to connect with professionals in your field. Don't be afraid to ask for advice or mentorship. A short conversation with someone experienced can open doors and give you valuable insights about your industry.
