How can I start networking most effectively in my first days at college?
I know networking is very important post-college. Could you please give me some tips to do it more effectively?

Take the pressure off. Don't think of it as doing something for post-college: try to have fun right now. Find your people, find who you vibe with, who lift you up, who make you laugh, who make you think.
Everything else stems from that. Networking is such an overused concept. What you need are connections, real ones.

Be curious about the people and places around you. Building connections with professors, teaching assistants, resident assistants, and administrators can be a valuable part of your network. Joining clubs, groups, or organizations in college can lead to lifelong friendships and help expand your network. For example, a college friend of mine stayed in touch, and when she wanted to switch careers, I was able to help her because of our connection. Even as friends, I was still part of her network.

Attend campus events, join clubs that interest you, introduce yourself to classmates, and connect with professors and advisors.
Be open, ask questions, and follow up with people you meet to build lasting relationships.
