How can I cope with moving away from home?

I plan on moving two hours away from home. I am really close with my parents and family, but I know I need to branch out to become my own person. I know I'm going to miss them, so I want advice on how to cope or mentally prepare.

Hi Lily. You need to remind yourself that moving out doesn't mean you'll lose your closeness with your parents. Your relationship is built on love and communication, not distance. You can talk openly with your family about how you're feeling, sharing your worries and excitement can make everyone feel more comfortable. You can even plan regular phone calls, video chats, or visits so you still have ways to stay connected after you move.

It also helps to focus on the positive side of moving. This change gives you the chance to grow, try new things, and learn more about yourself. Think about the opportunities waiting for you like new experiences, new people, and a chance to become more confident and independent.

Once you're in your new place, try to make it feel comfortable and familiar. You may bring things that remind you of home, like photos, a favorite blanket, or decorations you love. At the same time, give yourself space to explore your new life and build your independence.
