How can I make sure I'm involved in my future college community?
I have always been more introverted and I'm worried that when I get to college I will be tempted to disappear into the background. Any tips for getting out there?

Hi Lilly. An easy way to get involved is by attending events your college organizes, like orientations or social mixers. These events are designed to help new students meet each other, and they're a great chance to start making connections. You don't have to be super outgoing at first, just showing up is a big step! If you feel nervous about talking to people, join in group activities or start with simple questions to others. Most people are open and looking to connect too.
In class, you can try to engage with your professors and classmates. You don't have to speak up every time, but little things like making eye contact, smiling, or joining a study group can help you feel more involved. Professors are often happy to chat with students, and making connections with classmates for group projects or study sessions can help you feel part of your academic community.
Finally, you need to be patient with yourself. You don't have to dive into everything right away. It's ok to take things slow and focus on building relationships over time. It's important to remember that it's normal to need time to adjust, so don't pressure yourself to fit in right away. As long as you keep making small steps, you'll start feeling more connected to the campus.
