Leonard’s Answer

I never studied engineering, but my two children did—one in chemical engineering and the other in architectural engineering. Many engineering programs need students to maintain a minimum GPA. These fields involve advanced math and other technical subjects. To succeed, students must commit a lot of time and effort.

An engineering degree is an exciting and rewarding journey. It typically involves mathematics, physics, and hands-on work such as engineering design, labs, and workshops. There are many engineering fields, and you’ve chosen mechanical engineering, which is generally less challenging than electrical or aerospace engineering. Mechanical engineering focuses on designing, building, maintaining, operating, and testing mechanical systems. Students also learn technical drawing using CAD (Computer-Aided Design) software like SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or Creo to create precise 2D drawings and 3D models of components, assemblies, and machines. These drawings follow strict standards and are essential for communicating designs to engineers and manufacturers. While the workload can be heavy, the experience develops strong problem-solving abilities and prepares you for a wide range of careers. Stay curious, work consistently, manage your time wisely, set clear goals, and don’t hesitate to ask your teachers or professionals if you have questions in your field. Believe in yourself, embrace every challenge as an opportunity to grow, and remember that with dedication and perseverance, you can become not only a capable and well-prepared mechanical engineer but also a confident and impactful problem solver ready to shape the future.
