How do your feelings of nervousness about the future influence the way you think about your career path, and how do you approach those feelings?
I've just started a program for dental hygiene, and thinking about the future after always makes me second guess what I want to do. Even though I have wanted this for years.

Hi Aubrey. These feelings of nervousness can actually be a sign that you care about your future and want to make the right choices. I believe you can handle those feelings and keep moving forward.
First, it's important to understand that feeling uncertain is part of any career journey. No one knows everything at the start. It's normal to feel unsure about the future, even if you're doing something you're passionate about. The world of dental hygiene, like any job, can change over time. You might worry about finding a job after school, the challenges of the work, or whether you'll like it when you're actually doing it. These worries are natural, but they don't mean you've made the wrong choice. Instead, try to see these feelings as a chance to learn and grow. You're still in the process of discovering what you like most about this field.
One way to handle these nervous feelings is by focusing on small steps. Instead of thinking too far ahead, try to focus on the present. Focus on doing your best in your classes, gaining experience, and improving your skills every day. The more you learn, the more confident you'll become.
It's also helpful to talk to others who are already in the field. Connecting with people who work as dental hygienists or who are also studying the field can help you feel more confident. You may find that many people had the same fears when they first started, but once they got into the field and gained experience, they felt more certain about their career choices.
Wishing you all the best.
