How can I properly balance college with other responsibilities such as work while still having enough time for extra curriculars, sleep, and time to relax and recharge?
I'm currently a senior in high school planning on attending UNC Charlotte starting fall of 2026. I want to do well in school but I also want to get money and have experiences outside of school that will help me once I try to find a full time job.

Hi Gideon. The best way to handle everything is to plan and set priorities. Before classes start, you need to look at your schedule and block out time for classes, work, studying, meals, sleep, and breaks. Using a planner or calendar can help you see your week clearly and avoid doing too much at once. Remember, sleep and downtime are important because they help you stay focused and healthy.
It's also important to decide what's most important. School should come first because good grades help with future opportunities. After that, schedule work and activities around your classes. Part-time jobs that are flexible with student schedules, like on-campus work or remote jobs, can make things easier. For extracurricular activities, you may choose a few that really interest you or help with your future career. It's better to do a few things well than to join everything and feel stressed.
Time management is very important. Instead of leaving big tasks until the last minute, you should break them into smaller, manageable steps and work on them little by little.
Furthermore, make sure to take time to relax and recharge. Even short breaks, walks, or hanging out with friends can boost your energy and focus.
