Hi Grace! This is a great question. As someone who was recently in the job market, I can offer some insight on what most employers look for in interviews, including college internship ones. As for behavioral traits, employers are looking for a candidate who is positive, truthful, confident, and enthusiastic about the job. Even if the internship or job is not your top choice, go in sounding super excited for the opportunity, have lots of questions prepared, and do your research on the company. Employers also want to see that you are confident, capable of doing the job, professional, and a good communicator. You can showcase this by dressing and communicating professionally in the interview and thanking them for their time afterward via email.

Additionally, employers value curiosity and a willingness to learn. They want someone who asks thoughtful questions and can take feedback and mentoring opportunities. Integrity and accountability are key traits they are looking to assess in interviews as well. They want to hear stories that demonstrate honesty, responsibility, and ownership of prior actions and duties. Interviewees who show how they have owned mistakes and learned from various challenges will definitely impress employers.

Every company looks for different qualities in new hires, so it's a good idea to spend time learning about the culture and values of any company you're interested in. It's best if the company's culture and values match what you want in your work and career path.

There are some key traits you should try to develop as you start your career. Being curious, accountable, resilient, collaborative, communicative, coachable, and optimistic are qualities that managers often find desirable. The best part is that you have the power to develop and demonstrate these traits.
