How does one "learn how to study"?
As a college freshman who excelled in high school AP classes, we never discussed or learned "how to study". Hence, I do not feel "studying" is doing what it needs to do. I am interested in learning and retaining material, not memorizing it and then poof it is gone. How does one "learn how to study"? I am in engineering.

My secret to studying was creating a study guide, at the time I would physically write it. I have nice penmanship and it tapped into my creative side. You can also create on a computer, maybe a google doc using columns or a google sheets. Color associations or acronyms help to retain. Once you print you can add your own notes in the margins. It also helps to explain the topic do someone outside of your specialty to see if they understand it, learning through teaching. Can also be an exercise in your head vs with someone else. Practicing helps too! Figure out what your learning type is, audio, visual, touch, etc and tap into it!
