What decision should I made?
I got into SJSU and other CSUs, but I'm not going to other CSUs. I got rejected from Davis, and Berkeley might also reject me. Should I go to SJSU or CCSF for 2 years, then transfer? CC is pretty close to where I live; I just need to take the bus. SJSU is 1 hour driving. 1.5-2 hours of transportation. My major is accounting

Hi Jay,
I was in a similar boat when I was in high school! I grew up in Milpitas (10m drive to SJSU), and while I got into a few CSUs, including SJSU, I didn't actually want to go to any of them. For me, the best option was going to a community college (De Anza in Cupertino) and transferring to a UC after two years. My sister was able to do the same process in one year!
Some factors that went into my decision:
- Community college allowed my family to save a ton of money
- While I wasn't particularly excited about living at home for another two years while attending a CC, I knew I was working towards the goal of my dream school
- CC allowed me to really focus and have great grades. I was able to get into my dream school, UCLA
- SJSU didn't have the strongest psych program in the state, which was a huge factor, considering that was my major
- The community college I chose had a really strong transfer program. This is really important because often, students get "stuck" at community college
I think it depends on what really matters to you and how good SJSU's accounting program is. If it's really good, I'd say go for it! But I would caution you to think about the commute and try to stack your classes to two days a week so that you don't have to make the drive every day. If it's within the realm of possibility, it might be good to just live near campus.
While I absolutely loved my college journey, it was hard to see other people from my school immediately moving away from home and jumping right into the college experience. Thankfully, I had a really good group of friends who were also taking the transfer route, which helped tremendously because I felt less alone.

It's best to choose based on what you can afford, how long the program lasts, and if the school offers the subjects you're interested in.
