In engineering you can do almost any kind of work. Look around you, anything and everything you see has to be built from scratch. Engineers do that. Cars, houses, lawns, planes in the sky, furniture, equipment, the very computer you are using (hardware and software), even the food you eat,juice you drink... anything and everything is built with help of engineers.
Indeed 'Engineering' is derived from the Latin word ingenium, meaning "cleverness" and ingeniare, meaning "to contrive, devise".

Engineers are involved in designing every product you see around you. I cannot think of any type of industry or business that does not require work done by engineers. That is why there are so many types of engineering: electrical, mechanical, chemical ... the list is very long. But there are also many different ways of working as an engineer. Most engineers work on solving technical problems, but engineers also work as managers, guiding other engineers in their work. Engineers work in sales, helping to sell complex products. There are engineers who work as teachers, showing other engineers how to use new methods for doing engineering. Some engineers are good at working with people, others work mostly by themselves. Some engineers travel around the world, others stick close to home and go to work at the same office every day. The one thing that all engineers have in common is that they are natural-born problem solvers with an aptitude for math and science. There are many different types of engineering and many different ways to work as an engineer. It makes being an engineer interesting and rewarding.
