Start by building a strong base in key computer science areas like data structures, algorithms, operating systems, databases, and networking. Practice regularly to develop a solid problem-solving mindset. Learn one or two programming languages such as Python and JavaScript, and try solving problems on sites like Exercism, Codeforces, Codewars, LeetCode, or HackerRank, depending on whether you want guided learning, coding fluency, or competitive problem-solving.
Once you have the basic knowledge, work on real-world projects that involve frontend, backend, APIs, and databases. Use good engineering practices like software design, writing clean code, using Git for teamwork, effective debugging, reading documentation, understanding system design and scalability, and basic security measures. Improve your time management and project planning skills, and get ready for technical interviews by practicing how to explain your solutions clearly. Share your projects on GitHub and LinkedIn, and grow your career by networking with others, joining discussions, and sharing your work online. Attend hackathons, coding meetups, and tech events to connect with others. Gain experience through virtual internships on platforms like Forage and Internshala. Stay consistent, keep learning, and focus on long-term growth to become a confident software engineer.

Hi Materne,
Here's a friendly step-by-step guide for you:
1. Get into the habit of writing down tasks in steps. This will help you think things through better.
2. Dive deep into learning an Object-Oriented Programming Language. Once you get the hang of it, languages like Java and Python will be much easier.
3. Choose a coding language to start with, like Java or Python. If you're interested in AI, Python is a great choice.
4. After learning Java or Python, you'll be ready for backend development. To handle the visual side, learn HTML and JavaScript. They're really useful!
5. Now that you know both backend and frontend, you'll need to learn SQL for storage.
6. With all your skills, think of a simple problem and try to solve it. This is super important and will teach you about things like networking ports, logging, and APIs. For example, you could try building a Library Management system.
