What should I consider now to become successful later? #Spring26

I'm a 17 year old student trying to figure out my future. I've been thinking about becoming a nurse because I have a passion of helping people. I then want to continue evolving and reach my goal in becoming a labor and delivery nurse.

Nursing is a wonderful career, because there are many paths one can take as a nurse, including being in labor and delivery. You don't need to make any firm decisions now. All you need to do is stay curious and study hard. Explore all that college has to offer, both in terms of classes and in terms of extracurricular activities that you enjoy. It can be a joyful time of life if you don't over-worry about meeting others' expectations.
If you can, find opportunities to shadow nurses ( and/or other healthcare professionals) in different parts of the hospital and clinics. Volunteer for organizations that help people meet their basic needs (housing, food, preventative healthcare...).
If you do well in college, you will get into nursing school. There, you will be exposed to many different types of nursing. Keep exploring and the right path for you will become clearer over time.
"Success" has many domains. Aim to be happy in career, with friends and family, and with your own passions. As long as you study hard and develop excellent habits of avoiding procrastination and avoiding using AI to think for you, you'll be fine.

Cassandra’s Answer

Hello,
It is not necessary for you to make a decision now on career path while going to college. It's great if you already know what you want to do, but some take classes along with general education classes and enter as undeclared. Take something of interest to see what you are drawn to. I changed my path a few times but made a decision before going to a 4 year university. Enjoy the adventure.
