What are the benefits of seeking an MFA in theatre vs a PhD? What are the prospects of each?
I'm going back to school to pursue an MFA in theatre, but I am wondering if I should continue on and get a PhD after and if I should cater my time in my grad program to flow into a PhD. Is this a PhD going to be a waste of time and money if I already have an MFA?

It depends upon what your end goal is. If your end goal is to perform or to actively work in the field of performing or fine arts, then stop with an MFA. If your goal is to become a lecturer or university professor or to work as a researcher, etc., then by all means continue on for your PhD. It will give you status and in many cases will place you in a higher pay scale. In today’s economy, it’s also important to look long-term at any financial debt ramifications continuing on would incur. Best of luck to you.
