Hi Mason,
What a great question! One tip I have is that your "network" is probably bigger than you think. Get in the habit of talking to people in your everyday life about what they do, and what your interests are. Networking doesn't always have to be so scary or formal. It's more than likely that someone close to you has some connection to the industry you're interested in. Not every "networking conversation" will lead to a direct outcome, but the more you get curious and talk about the opportunities you're interested in, the closer you'll get to them!
When you scroll LinkedIn, don't hesitate to reach out to Alumni of your school whose roles interest to you. Even if it feels unlikely that they would be able to land you an internship at their company, they may have insights that point you in the direction of a different role, or tips on where to find openings, for example. You don't know what you don't know!
Best of luck in your journey!

This is more on how to network... make eye contact, smile, a firm hand shake, and be genuinely interested in what the other person does. Have 3-5 questions ready that don't sound scripted. And let the conversation then flow to you and what you're looking for. If you're genuinely able to give in a conversation, you end up getting more than what you bargained for.

Hi Mason,
In today's digital world, with computers, emails, and texts, it can be hard to make genuine connections. This makes networking a bit challenging. It's important to have your basics like LinkedIn set up, but standing out is the key.
Here are some tips to help you network successfully:
- Repetition is crucial. The more you reach out and make your name known, the more people will remember you. This is the goal—being memorable.
- Remember, "The harder I work, the luckier I get." Don't hesitate to put in the effort. Research the person you want to connect with, learn about their background, and use this information when you reach out. Use multiple methods like email, calls, texts, and messages, and do it more than once.
- Lastly, don't be afraid. Regardless of someone's title or age, make the effort to connect. People appreciate a motivated person eager to get involved!
Figure out a list of companies that resonate with you and your passion
Research people within that company that sound like they are doing something cool and you would like to learn about
Reach out to that person and introduce yourself and ask them if you could interview them to learn more
Go crazy and do this to as many people as you have the time for - This is the hard work part. Put the work in and reach out to as many as you can!
Always remember humans want to be helpful - the more you connect with the bigger your network will grow. Good Luck and Go get em!
