What has everyone been doing to increase their chances of getting into a prestigious college?

I am hoping to get into MSU's veterinary program, but they take a very limited amount of applicants.

Hello, Hannah. I assume that the MSU you are referring to is Michigan State University, which I know is a very good school. Even if that's not the case, I think getting into a good veterinary program would take doing the following:

1. Having good grades overall, but especially in science classes like biology and chemistry, as well as math. If your high school offers upper-level math courses such as trigonometry and calculus, I'd encourage you take them because you will likely be taking math courses like this in order to get a degree in veterinary medicine. If your high school doesn't offer those courses, check with your local community or technical college to see if they offer them.

2. Engaging in extracurricular activities, including those that involve work with animals. You may be able to do volunteer work at a local animal shelter or for a veterinarian. Take some time for look for opportunities like that in your area.

3. If going to a school out of state is an option for you, there are some other outstanding veterinary programs that may interest you. North Carolina State University in Raleigh, where I earned my degree in a different subject, has a highly-regarded veterinary program, and like Michigan State is a major agricultural school. Other schools you might consider include Ohio State University, the University of Minnesota, the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
