How do I make the most impact at the university I am at to set myself up for a successful future?

I am struggling to connect with my current community. But, I know that these community members may end up being coworkers and I want to make a positive impact.

Brooke’s Answer

There are a lot of ways to make the most of your time in college. Getting involved in clubs or activities is a great place to start—it helps you meet new people, build your network, and explore interests that could shape your future.

To really make an impact, you have to be willing to put yourself out there. Try new things, step into unfamiliar situations, and connect with different people. College is the time to explore what you enjoy now while also discovering what might interest you down the road. The more you engage, the more you’ll learn about yourself and the opportunities around you.

Brooke recommends the following next steps:

Pick 1-2 new activities, groups, or clubs to go to this week.
Show up for a few weeks to see if it fits what you are looking for.
Introduce yourself early. Challenge yourself to new one new person each time.
Get a bit more involved. Volunteer for a small role, help with setup, or ask how to contribute.
Reflect weekly. Ask yourself if you like this? Are you learning something? Does this connect with something you want to do in the future? If not, replace with a new activity.
