What strategies help adult students balance college coursework with parenting and household responsibilities without burning out?
I’m a mom returning to college after several years away, and I’m juggling homeschooling, household responsibilities, and starting a financial coaching path. I want to do well in school, but I also want to stay present for my family. I’d love advice from anyone who has managed school and parenting at the same time.

As a fellow mom, I truly admire your decision. It takes a lot of courage to return to school while caring for your family—I honestly hope I can do the same one day.
What you’re feeling is very real. Balancing college, parenting, and household responsibilities isn’t easy, and the next few years may be challenging. There will be moments when you feel stretched thin, and that’s completely normal. Instead of trying to carry everything alone, it’s important to accept support—whether that’s from your partner, parents, or other family members. Sharing responsibilities at home can give you the space you need to focus on your studies without burning out.
At the same time, try to be kind to yourself. You don’t have to do everything perfectly. Set realistic expectations, prioritize what truly matters, and allow some flexibility in your routine. Even small, consistent progress in your studies will add up over time.
Most importantly, remember why you started. This journey is not only about your education, but also about setting an example for your children and building a better future for your family. It may be tough now, but if you keep going, one day you’ll look back and feel incredibly proud of yourself—for not giving up and for managing to do both.
You’re doing something really meaningful, even if it doesn’t feel easy right now.
