Hi Kelsey,

You don't need to own fancy cars or luxury items to enjoy life. I have a simple car, a pool, and some horses. And travel is something anyone can do with good planning. I know someone who doesn't earn a lot but lives simply and travels the world. It's all about what you prioritize.

There are marketing jobs everywhere, not just in big city agencies. I've had a successful career in a mid-sized town, and I even worked for a company in Washington, DC, by visiting once a month and working remotely the rest of the time. Many jobs let you live wherever you want!

You can find great marketing jobs in nonprofits, hospitals, manufacturing, government, universities, consumer goods, travel, software, gaming, retail, finance, and tech. These opportunities aren't just in big cities, so explore what's out there!

Hi Kelsey,

The two biggest things that helped me as I was approaching graduating from college and pursuing my first job in marketing was to find an internship and in order to make that happen, I had to network and make meaningful connections. It can be as simple as reaching out for a coffee or a information interview. Once you do this, it's very important to continue nurture that relationship through following up and asking if there's anyone else in their network you should meet with and if they would be comfortable providing an introduction. It's okay to be politely aggressive in your requests. Also, attend any affiliated professional events so you can meet people in person - happy hours, meetings, social gatherings etc.

Best of luck in your professional pursuits!

Those are some big questions! First, what does success mean to you? Is it about being happy, making a certain amount of money, or living somewhere special? Once you know, you can set goals that are Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, and Time-Sensitive (SMART). Then, you can plan your steps, like getting more training, finding the right job, or taking some risks.

I found my career path early at 19 when I got an admin job at an ad agency. I loved learning about people (market research), working with clients (account executive), solving problems (marketing strategy), and writing (communication).

To learn more about how businesses work and the latest in marketing tech, I took courses and workshops to boost my skills.

I know I chose the right career because I’ve always enjoyed my work. I never wanted to do anything else, except maybe be an investigative journalist or a lounge singer. Ha!

Thank you comment icon I think being successful to me is being able to afford luxury items and buy all the cars I want while still being able to maintain a healthy work life balance. I’d love to be able to travel and not live in the city but I’m not sure if that’s realistic with this career path. Kelsey
