According to mining electrical competency frameworks and industry guidance, to be a successful mining electrical engineer, it's important to have technical skills, hands-on experience, and a strong focus on safety. You'll need knowledge of electrical basics, high and low voltage systems, power-system analysis, and equipment like Substations, PLC/SCADA, transformers and motors. Good communication and teamwork are also crucial.

A key part of your job is figuring out problems and stopping them from happening again. If a high-voltage feeder stops working, check things like protection settings and cable condition before turning it back on. If a conveyor motor breaks down, look into the power supply and motor settings. Take charge of solving these issues, learn from any mistakes, and use that knowledge to make things safer and more reliable.
