Moving to a difference city for college is definitely challenging, but just remember you aren't alone in doing so! I moved 3 hours away for college while a lot of my friends stayed closer to home, so I was very nervous and afraid I was making the wrong choice, but it was the best decision I had ever made! The main reason I moved away was to get to see what life was like far enough away from my family that they could still visit but it would still feel like a new and exciting place that I could make my own new home. My advice would be to find things in your new city that you enjoy and maybe remind you of home a little bit to make you feel comfortable. Whether it be a local theater, coffee shop, or park, spend some time there when you're feeling homesick and you might even make some new friends there that have similar interests! Since being in college itself is a new and exciting time, you won't even notice you're in a new city right away because everyone will be getting to know each other and the surrounding area just the same as you are. If you are looking for a new perspective on a different place in the world, this is a great move for you!

Moving to different city initially can be really scary but with time, it becomes better. In the beginning, there is a possibility to feel home sick and would want to go back. Once you start making friends , the stay in new city becomes enjoyable. You get to know yourself more. You form new friendships, get exposed to different situations. It makes a person more mature and confident to face situations on your own. My inputs would be to enjoy your new friends, places, try new hobbies . Plan your regular visits back home and keep in touch with your family frequently. Brace yourself for change and new experiences. It will be a very nostalgic experience when you look back.

Aubrey’s Answer

Moving to a different city can bring in many unknowns! I moved two states away for college and started off living on campus. Starting out in dorm life I believe was a huge step for me in connecting with others and making new friends. From what I have experienced and others I know, that can be the hardest part. If you do not know a lot of people it can be an adjustment filled with loneliness, but the right university will do a great job at creating opportunities for you to get involved. If you are very close with your family you will miss them, you'll miss your old life that you were comfortable with, but you will also discover a lot of new things about yourself and build a new life as well. I highly recommend anyone to go to college out of state if they are given the opportunity.
