Rachel’s Answer

Almost any 4 year university is going to have a reasonable biology program. Any well-respected state school should be adequate, especially if you want to move on to higher education after college. I attended the University of Texas at Austin and found that they had excellent science professors.

Paul’s Answer

Hi Abigail:

U.S News has published their ranking for the subject of Biology, and it is very extensive. Some of the top schools in the United States include:

1. Harvard University

2. Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT)

3. Stanford University

4. University of California-Berkeley

5. University of California-San Francisco

6. Johns Hopkins

7. University of California-San Diego

8. Cornell

9. The University of Washington

10. The University of Michigan

11. UCLA

12. Columbia

I would also research the colleges which are closer to your home. As you can see there are a wide range of choices in this particular subject area. I would also research the particular specialty of Biology, that you wish to pursue, and determine which college or university has that specialty and the education, internships and training they have in that particular area. This can be particularly helpful in your future career.

Paul recommends the following next steps:

Research the various colleges and universities, including the ones in your region to determine which ones have Biology programs.
Determine which specialty within the academic field of Biology that you wish to pursue, and see which colleges and universities have that specialty.
See a college academic advisor and plan your academic path within the major of Biology and the courses you will need to complete to enter the major and your choice of concentration or specialty.
Visit a college job center and research the employment opportunities in the field of Biology.
