I agree with Rachel and Sowmya. I would like to add that the best surgical assistants really focus on the procedure and are not distracted by activity and conversations that might be going on around them. They remain very focused. The more experience, the better.

Experience is key. When you are familiar with the operating room, know the instruments and the steps to the procedures, and can anticipate what the surgeon will need, you are an invaluable help to the operation.
