How do you get started in the animation industry?

Is there anyway you can describe how or what it is like in general when making your debut in the animation industry? Is there any specific process?

Olivia,

My advice would be for you to

1- begin building a portfolio of your work. This will be just as important as your resume’ for breaking into the field.

2 - Take some free online courses from Adobe’s website (you will need to purchase a subscription to their Creative Cloud Suite). You are not limited to Adobe products, but this is one that comes to mind because I used to teach this.

2 - Do some research on current job openings the animation field. Are they plentiful? Do they pay well? Would you need to relocate?

Good luck!

Katie’s Answer

Hi Olivia!

I'd suggest looking for summer internships that you can participate in, Dreamworks, Disney, Cartoon Network, Nickelodeon and many other studios are always posting internships, especially for animators.

I'd also suggest checking out online courses like School of Motion or Skillshare to help grow your skillset. Taking this courses will also result in more work to include on your portfolio.

Using a website such as Behance or Dribble for your portfolio of animations is a great way to have access to a wide audience who can search your work. Make sure to add in tags so people can find your work!

Hope that helps :)
