Karen’s Answer

Never stop learning; never back down from a challenge. Especially in 3D animation, things WILL go wrong. You WILL lose work because files get corrupted or lost. Projects WILL feel impossible and intimidating. Embrace it. Know that challenges and big problems are tests of creativity and resilience and after this project you will learn something. Your next project is always your best project--when that stops being true, you've peaked.

Be curious and seek out information. Part of what I love about the animation industry is that I am constantly learning. The software changes legitimately every 6 months and when you start a new project it is like you are exploring a whole new realm. Always be doing a side project to continue the curiosity.

Offer help and don't be afraid to ask for help. There is nothing about 3D animation tools that are instinctual; you have to learn them. If you don't ask questions, you won't learn. If you don't teach/help others, you will forget what you know. Additionally, animation is a relatively small field and people remember those who were helpful to them. Nice is different than helpful.

Karen recommends the following next steps:

Start a side project. If you don't know something, center the idea of the project around that. For example "I know nothing about modeling;" side project "I am going to model something!" Get on YouTube and start learning. Never stop learning.
Offer help to someone to boost their knowledge of animation.

Janelle’s Answer

Always remember creativity. Think of things you have seen or grew up with that caught your eye and think of your audience that will catch their eye.

Do not be afraid to think outside of the box!

Simi’s Answer

Make yourself a character and think of all the funny things you could do in a given situation which may not necessarily be able to do as a human. Let your creativity flow. show what people like to see. make them laugh and make them cry. Be a good storyteller, don't forget the details and last but not the least remember to have a lot of fun yourself while keeping the spirit of your animations on...
