David’s Answer

Are you scared of this, if you become a surgeon? Once you get past this fear, you’re ready to start that path. You have to lose the Superman syndrome, in critical medicine and as a surgeon.

I had a fear going into my present job. I didn’t even know it existed. Someone else pointed it out. I asked him, what happens if I’m wrong or screw up. He told me that my job wasn’t about me. He told me, that it was about those who needed me. And I had to let go of the ego part. And as a result, the fear surfaced. I was afraid to visit crime scenes. I didn’t want to admit that I was afraid. Once I confronted the fear, my career started.

If you’re afraid of killing someone in the OR as a surgeon, that means that you are a good person. Knowing this, is a good start. Remember that fear, is False Evidence Appearing to be Real! The best way, to confront any fear, is on paper. Then pour water over it.
