To be a Private Investigator, requires a certification in the state you will be working in. Each state has their own certification standards. These courses are usually available on line for a fee. Once you take the course and pass the test, you can obtain a State certified license to work as a Private Investigator. You don’t need a Bachelors Degree to become a Private Investigator, but your chances of being hired are increased if you have one.

You can likely find work as a private investigator with a bachelor degree in criminology. You can join the police force but you will not start as a detective. Some private companies or insurance companies hire people to investigate with a bachelors
