What can i do in high school to help me with cosmetology ?

Hello,
Cosmetology is an exciting career with many different avenues. If your school does not offer a cosmetology program , then I recommend partnering with your theater program. You can provide hair and makeup for shows. This will give the opportunity to research different hair and makeup genres. Any opportunity to do a fashion show whether for student council, fundraiser, what ever take part in it!

Thank you comment icon I attended cosmetology school almost ten years ago, and made sure to start networking with strong brands even as a student. I have worked behind the chair providing services, taught as an Educator for a specialty brand, managed multi-unit salons, and now oversee an Account for a cosmetic brand. The possibilities are endless with the right mentorship and work ethic. With out craft most of our learning is done hands on, but there are many resources online that can provide further education. Follow brand educators on Instagram and or Facebook...they almost always post continuing education. I truly love my industry and don't mind answering any questions anyone may have..... So some high schools have a work based learning program where you can work and earn credits at the same time. I would recommend trying to get a job as receptionist or an internship at a salon. In my area I have had many students come in just wanting to shadow and some of them fall more in love with the career and others realize it might not be for them. Which is great because you get that exposure to the salon without making the commitment to beauty school. Or if you know already that this is what you would like to do there are some technical colleges that offer dual enrollment. This allows you to be in high school and take college courses so you can get a head start in your career. cosmetology school tech
