How do I start a blog that makes money? How long does it take?

Hi! My name is Anina and I'm a high school senior interning at CareerVillage. I see a lot of that "work from home!" spam in comment sections. But it seems like many bloggers actually DO manage to work from home, and still make a liveable wage. How do you replicate their success? #technology #marketing #blogging #content-marketing

Hi Anina,
Blogging can be fun, but to have it make money can be a lot of work. You need to choose a topic you know first. You'll need to write everyday, and have fun features surrounding your topic. You'll need to incorporate media as well, like pictures and videos.
You will start out unpaid. Write professionally using full sentences and proper spelling. Network, network, network! The more readers you have, the better your chances of marketing are. Some of those might be built into the site hosting you- they may have an ad program that lets you get ads in your site when you have a certain amount of followers. But you can also send your blog out to local publications and try to get picked up.
Start soon; writing takes practice and building takes time.

There are companies that have Affiliate relationships, where you post an ad on your site, and when someone clicks through it and purchases an item from the Affiliate site, you get a commission. I would recommend that you look at the sites that offer products and services that you will write about in your blog and see if they have an Affiliate program. There is also a site called Rakuten that manages the Affiliate programs for many companies - check them out...

Youtube is a great source on how to create your blog and make money. Take SEO courses, make sure you pick a topic that you are passionate about.

Hi Anina H,
You can start blog for free using blogspot.com for free. If you need own domain name then you should buy a domain from namecheap.com. One you setup blogging website you should sign up with google AdSense. Once google approves you can place google ads on your blogging website, more visitors more money 😊 Definitely you should consider promoting the blog via social media sites as well as via google adwords to get more traffic/users..

In addition to the affiliates sites, focus on expanding your online visibility. This includes adding an online presence in various social media sites: Facebook, LinkedIn, etc..
