Herbert’s Answer

Alina, medical anthropology, is a fascinating subject and offers multiple career paths. Some people who are interested in this discipline pursue an advanced degree and teach. Others explore economics, politics, healthcare, perform research like a data scientist, and become a social worker, but you can choose your path. What are you passionate about? What problem do you want to solve? Answering these questions could help you decide your career path.

Herbert recommends the following next steps:

Gain a better understanding of medical anthropology by researching school programs, and many will list potential career paths for students with a degree in this area.
Reflect and understand your interest in medical anthropology. What problem do you want to solve? Alina, this may help you determine a career or profession.

Billie Jo’s Answer

Medical anthropology is an intense field that has a lot of career options. One of the options is to work in a lab to help create cures for the world's diseases. Another option is to conduct clinical trials or investigates the background and cause of disease, while others study-specific tissue or bacterial samples. Also, one can do planning specific programs and health plans designed to assist medical professionals through education and consults in hospitals and clinics.

Billie Jo recommends the following next steps:

Look up what these different fields entail
Write down what you want to do and be in 10 years time
What most interests you about the field?
With where you want to be in 10 years figure out which direction will get you there and does that choice make you happy or not?
Look up summer internships in these fields to get some life experience. The subject may look great on paper, but not so much in actuality.

Adele’s Answer

Alina, I work for a medical device company and while we don't have a function called "medical anthropology," I can see how a degree in this field could be useful in Regulatory, Marketing, and R&D. It could also be a great undergraduate degree to support med school. Several others asked you to think about what problems you like to solve and what aspects of the career interest you. Those are great pieces of advice.
