Hi, before I answer: on the listing your location said "India," but I see "Rhode Island" at the top of this page. Just so you understand, I am not sure about how military service is really structured in India. By that I mean that in some militaries, it is actually difficult to make a career out of being "enlisted," and if you really want to pursue a 30 year career you need to have a college degree and become an officer. That being said, my response is strictly for the US military in general, not just the Army. First of all, think about what "specialization" you want to pursue. Be aware that all four branches of service (Army, Air Force, Navy, Marines) have a certain amount of cross-over in terms of the people they need, and that all four branches do things a little differently! Regardless, before talking to a recruiter, get on the websites of each of the branches and search out specializations (jobs) until you find what specialization you want, that way you have a "game plan" when you go in to talk to the recruiter. Be aware that recruiters all have quotas for specific jobs to fill. When a new person comes in the door looking to sign up, if that person doesn't know what specialization/job they want to pursue, then the recruiter is going to try to fill the job they're most desperate to fill with that person. (For example: if you wanted to be a computer technician in the Navy, but the Navy was desperate to hire cooks, if you don't insist on the computer technician specialization and see it in writing on your orders before you sign the dotted line, get ready to go to cooking school.) If you want to be an officer, you will need a Bachelor's degree (science or arts). They'll tell you that some jobs prefer you to have a science degree, but don't let that slow you down; you can be retrained (I knew a guy with an acting degree who became a fighter pilot). Be advised: if you just want to be infantry in the Army, you can probably still get a specialization that will make you more valuable to the command, so try to push for that before signing the dotted line. Good luck!

If you are interested in joining the Army I would start by contacting your local recruiting office. They will give you all of the information you need. You have to take a test before they will let you pick a job. Once you take the test you will have a better idea of what you qualify for. This can help you pick by narrowing down your options.

Hi Abishek P.,
Please contact your local Army recruiter as there are lots of careers to choose from. You will have to take The Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) exam to see which jobs are tied to your skills. Here is the link to the U.S. Army site: https://www.goarmy.com/

Thanks,
Ivy
