A marine engineer is responsible for the mechanical systems of a ship. The responsibilities of a marine engineer depends on there rank and the type of ship they are working on - for example: a marine engineer on a fishing ship will learn how to operate and repair diesel electric systems, diesel systems, water systems, waste systems, computer systems, electrical systems, and refrigerant systems. Usually marine engineers spend half the year at sea and the other half on vacation. Marine engineers usually get paid well.
