Yasemin’s Answer

Hi Omogolo ! There are prerequisites to take in the U.S. and I believe these are the same for any student pursuing medicine. They are biology, inorganic and organic chemistry, physics, and math. Make sure to speak with your guidance counselors at school, based on your location in South Africa, these subjects may change as to when you take them. Usually in the US, students take these subjects in college along with other courses like English and recommended ones like cell and molecular biology, genetics, anatomy and physiology, etc. These subjects do vary in other countries and there are combined programs where in Europe for example you go to medical school after high school, and complete it in 6 years plus specialty. Therefore, I would recommend to check what the requirements are for medical schools in South Africa but overall these courses are going to be a major focus for any prospective physician!

I hope this helps!
Best of luck!

You will want to make sure you enjoy the sciences. Biology, anatomy, chemistry will all be required at some point in your education. Other important classes to consider would be psychology to better understand people.
