Which is better for me a digital artist or an interior designer?

I like to draw a lot and I decided that it would be better for me if I were to take a career where I can paint or just draw. I understand that if I am an interior designer I won't be painting all the time, but I do find it enjoyable to make others happy; If I were to redesign their home or workspace to the way they would like it, that would be quite fun to turn something old and boring into something they enjoy what they see! As a digital artist, I can draw a lot, do commissions, and just draw! It sounds like a dream to me! Making art for people, or for video games. It just sounds like so much fun!!

Dear Alexandra,

Overview

If you're passionate about drawing and painting, you might be considering a career as a digital artist or an interior designer. Both fields allow for artistic expression and creativity, but they differ in terms of job roles, work settings, and career trajectories. This comprehensive comparison will delve into the crucial aspects of both professions, aiding you in making a well-informed decision that aligns with your interests and career aspirations.

Digital Artist

Digital artists primarily create visual content using digital tools like graphic design software, drawing tablets, and computer programs. They can work in various sectors, including advertising, entertainment, gaming, animation, and web design. As a digital artist, you can express your creativity through illustrations, animations, concept art, character designs, and more.

Advantages of Being a Digital Artist:

Creative Freedom: Digital artists enjoy the liberty to experiment with different styles, techniques, and mediums to realize their artistic vision.

Versatility: They can work on diverse projects, ranging from creating logos and branding materials to designing characters for video games or animations.

Global Reach: The rise of online platforms and digital marketplaces allows digital artists to reach a global audience and work with clients from all over the world.

Drawbacks of Being a Digital Artist:

Competitive Industry: Digital art is a highly competitive field, demanding continuous skill enhancement and networking to stand out.

Freelance Challenges: Many digital artists work freelance, leading to fluctuating income, project-based work, and the need for self-promotion.

Interior Designer

Interior designers specialize in creating functional and visually pleasing indoor spaces for residential, commercial, or institutional clients. They consider factors like layout, color schemes, furniture selection, lighting design, and overall ambiance to transform interior spaces into visually appealing environments that meet the needs of their clients.

Advantages of Being an Interior Designer:

Client Interaction: Interior designers work closely with clients to understand their preferences, lifestyle needs, and design aspirations.

Spatial Creativity: They express their creativity through spatial planning, material selection, furniture arrangement, and decorative elements.

Impactful Transformations: Interior designers derive satisfaction from transforming ordinary spaces into personalized havens that enhance quality of life and well-being.

Drawbacks of Being an Interior Designer:

Regulatory Requirements: Interior designers must comply with building codes, regulations, and industry standards for safety and functionality.

Project Constraints: Design projects can be influenced by budget limitations, client expectations, timeline constraints, and unforeseen challenges during implementation.

Making Your Decision

The decision to become a digital artist or an interior designer ultimately depends on your personal interests, career goals, preferred work setting (freelance vs. studio), creative outlets (digital vs. physical spaces), and long-term aspirations in the art and design industry. You might want to explore both fields through internships or courses to gain firsthand experience before choosing one.

Conclusion

To sum up, both careers offer thrilling opportunities for those passionate about art and design. Which is better for me a digital artist or an interior designer?
______________
Hello, Alexandra,
This is an interesting question, as most of us want someone to tell us what to do. But that is not what others can do for us. Others can stand for us with our decisions, but they cannot choose what is best for us. Only you know what is best for you.

So, if you are between two ideas and are not sure, there are some things you can do to find out.
Using meditation/prayer, you can go inside yourself and ask yourself what you truly desire to do.

How I use this method is:
I set up a quiet space for myself with a notepad, music with no words, and a candle.
I set a timer for 5 minutes (this will seem so long if you don't usually meditate, but as you get used to this, you will be able to sit longer)
I sit in criss-cross leg position on a pillow.
I shut my eyes and start to breathe.
Then I ask myself questions like:
- Who am I?
- What do I love?
- What did I love to do when I was 5?
- What books do I love to read?
- What movies do I love to watch and rewatch?
-What do people say I am good at?
- Why do people come to me?
- What is my passion?
- What would I enjoy doing for many hours a day?

You come up with your own questions, but these might give you a good start. Then ask each one and listen to your answers. Remember the answers, no matter how silly or odd they may seem at the time. When your 5 minutes are up, write down all you remember.

Do this a few times, and you will start to see a pattern in your answers, and you will get to know yourself better.

You might even come up with a way to blend these ideas you have - drawing, art, and decorating all have things in common. What could you do to enjoy all of them?

You are right where you should be - getting curious about yourself and a life you can make your own.
Keep questioning.
You will find your way,

Sincerely, Angie
