One of the most important steps to becoming a model is you should know your market, it depends on the area you live in, and which trends and looks are more popular than others. Knowing your market may also help you know what look the agencies around you are looking for. Next, is find a good agency, as they understand your personal needs as a model, lift you up, and never take advantage to take money from you. They will not also put you in a compromised situation.

The most important thing you can do as well is to become yourself! never change yourself inside or outside, don't sacrifice your values or your self esteem to do so! Happy modelling!

Hi, Sierra J. There is no best way to become a model. What I mean by this, is that it takes a lot of time, a strong will and well - developed inner strengths which all take a lot of time and get better as time goes on.

The field of modeling is indeed exciting, fun and can be quite lucrative.

My advice is for you to do a search for modeling agencies or schools in your town. If you can afford it, take some courses, just the basics like movement and camera work. Also do employment searches for modeling agencies near you and submit your portfolio, photos, composites or whatever they request. Do not spend a fortune pursuing a modeling career. An agency is there to hire and pay you, not for you to pay them. You may also do an online search for websites that host models photos and actually, I do not know if some charge a fee, but if they do, do not spend the money for it. Try to find a way to showcase your look on a free website but not on Facebook. Trust me, not there.

If you are interested in modeling. you are most likely keeping up with trends in fashion and style. Try to build up a fashionable but basic wardrobe so that when you go on calls you can dress accordingly to how they ask.

The most important piece of advice ever : get a college education. Do not neglect getting at least a Bachelors degree. No, you don't need a degree to be a model, but no one ever has relied on modeling alone. As a vital and strong woman, you will need to prepare yourself for your wonderful future and that will include remaining as independent as possible. You can do it !

Another piece of advice just as important as education : please do not underestimate how you look or obsess with your looks or your figure. You are unique. You are great as you are. No one can be you and that's awesome ! So enhance what you already have and know that the field has opened up to a much more wide variety of looks and shapes now and know you will be great just how you are. Best wishes to you in your future endeavors !

Michelle recommends the following next steps:

Obtain photos, composites and portfolio
Seek out modeling schools and agencies
Build, hopefully, a free website/host showcasing your look
Continued education

To begin, try shadowing a paid model for a few photo shoots and gigs. See if this type of work suits you. You might consider taking courses at FIT in NYC to see if you enjoy and have a passion for the Fashion and Modeling industry. You can also speak to reputable modeling firms to get an understanding of how they would help you become a model and make an appropriate wage for doing so. It can be a shady business so tread slowly and carefully during your journey, and be assertive with your requirements and your boundaries. Take your time, keep high spirits and always be true to your word.

Good luck in your modeling quest.
