Hello! Even though I'm not involved in politics, here's my advice:

If you aspire to be a political consultant...
Start by researching the top 20 political consulting firms on Google. Focus on understanding the operations of the top 3 firms from their official websites. Next, use LinkedIn to study the career trajectories of individuals who have secured jobs at these firms. With this knowledge, you can map out your potential career path.

If you aspire to be a politician...
For local politics such as city council or state representative roles, it's crucial to network extensively. Prioritize meeting people through institutions like churches, charities, and advocacy groups.
For federal politics, you need a significant accomplishment under your belt. This could be a successful business career or experience in local politics.

When you're about two years away from running for office, consider creating a TikTok or Reels account. Use this platform to discuss local issues that affect your city or state.

There are so many ways to get involved! I would suggest staying up to date with news and what is happening in the House and Senate--these can be great to learn about since these are going through both. It is much better to be "in the know" of what is happening!

In school, you can take courses/electives in political science, communications, media studies, government, policymaking, etc. If you're heading into college, you can major in public policy, political science, and minor in something you're very interested in! I know media studies/comms may seem weird, but these are major components in politics because the spreading of information is part of the chaos and is indeed very important. Another suggestion could even be in sociology because group dynamics is also a major factor. You can also take part in internships, volunteer work, or even a part-time job. In DC, you can intern on Capitol Hill for a representative which gives you a look into what it's like, plus, being in the capitol is an experience in itself. I hope this helps, and good luck!!
