What is the best way to decide which career would be best for me?

I’m in my sophomore year now and I can’t decide what job I want to have when I’m older. I’ve done some research and would like to be either a lawyer or an engineer but I can’t decide which one. What would be a good way to go about deciding which career to pursue?

Kamilah’s Answer

I once thought that I wanted to be a lawyer when I was younger and then my mind changed my senior year because I discovered what all work and school included that I'd have to do and I found out that it wasn't honestly my passion. I'm now at the end of my junior year and majoring in Sports Management with a minor in Kinesiology. I decided what I wanted to officially do for my future in my senior year of high school, I chose sports because it's something that I love to do and it doesn't bore me. Base it off your hobbies.

Kamilah recommends the following next steps:

The best way to decide what career best fits you is to determine what you like to do most and what interest you to where you wouldn't get bored with within hours or days.
Make sure your passionate about it and can see yourself doing it until you retire or for your free time.
Look into all the school and college courses that it will take, between being a lawyer and engineer.

You could double-major in law, and a field of engineering, like wildlife habitat restoration engineering. There are environmental lawyers, or you might decide you would rather work in the conservation field.
