You have agreat profile so far—your BTech in AI & Machine Learning gives you a strong foundation for a Data Science Engineer role. I think to bridge the gap from academic knowledge to industry readiness, you’ll want a mix of structured learning, hands-on projects, and recognized credentials. Here are some suggested courses and certifications you can take at different stages of your learning path:
These are ideal if you want to build core data science skills (Python, statistics, SQL) and reinforce fundamentals.
• IBM Data Science Professional Certificate (Coursera) – Python, SQL, data visualization, machine learning basics.
• Google Foundations of Data Science (Coursera) – analytics, data storytelling, workflow management.
• Intro to Data Science (edX) – statistics, data modeling, big data overview.
• Python for Data Science & Machine Learning Bootcamp (Udemy) – hands-on with real tools like NumPy, Pandas, Scikit-Learn.
• Free Data Science Basics (MyGreatLearning) – introductory short modules on Python, R, SQL, visualization.
By taking these, you’ll gain programming, data wrangling, exploratory analysis, and basic ML skills — all essential before tackling advanced topics.

Hope this helps!!

Hi Simranjeet,

Getting a first job is always a pain! It gets better though. Are you getting interviews? If not, improve your resume. If yes, improve your interview skills.

A few tips:

Try to work on some real projects, e.g. do an internship or volunteer your services so you can add that as experience. There are also online internships.

Make sure you have a great portfolio with unique projects (at least 3) that showcase your skills.

Add a link to your Github to your resume.

Categorize your skills section (Programming, tools, databases, python packages etc).

Be ready for technical interviews where you have to demonstrate your skills.

Most important: get on LinkedIn and network.

There are lots of YouTubes with tips on portfolios, data science resumes etc if you need help with that. You'll also find a community of data people on Twitter who share tips and tools.

Good luck!
