It can also be helpful to chat with teachers, recruiters, and other individuals about potential internship opportunities. Make sure that your resume is up to date with all the the essential information such as job and education experience, volunteer opportunities, and skills that may be relevant to the internship.
Once your resume is up to date, you can apply for the positions - it is typical to upload a resume during the application process. If selected for an interview, make sure to have your elevator pitch ready - this is usually a brief introduction of who you are, your prior work experience and involvements, and why you are interested in the position. It is also a good idea to have stories that highlight your skills that you can tell to your interviewer. These person stories should demonstrate why you will be a great fit for the role. There are so many ways to dive into getting an internship!
1. The first step is to focus on what you want to do! Take some time and speak to people in different fields, friends, family, Linkedin, etc and start thinking about what makes your feel passionate.
2. From there, research different companies who may have internship opportunities - see if they have info sessions or opportunities online. You can apply but also, it helps to network with people in the company.
3. You can see if you have connections on LinkedIn or ask your school if they have any connections or recruiters form the bigger companies. Personal connections are always best but a great resume is also a great way to get noticed.
4. Make sure you are reviewing your resume with someone else to make sure there are no typos, etc.
5. Make sure you are exploring your options EARLY! Sometimes companies are starting to select their interns starting freshman year - so the earlier you can jump on the intern train, the better! If you are past freshman year, don't be discouraged! Great companies are always looking for great interns!
