Joaquin’s Career Stories
How did you pick your career? Did you know all along?
I chose my career after taking a class on the subject that required me to do hands-on lab work in a real television studio, including filming my own commercial and working every position for a production. It felt like something I truly felt called to do and wanted to continue learning, so i changed my major later that week and began to study it full time.
In layperson terms, what do you actually do at work?
At my job at my local radio station, I choose songs to play each day of the week and talk about them on the radio. We record a few minutes of talking about the songs and have them aired on a schedule, meaning we’re always careful to stay within the deadline. For television production such as sports games and other local events, my job is typically either to be a camera operator where I set up video recording cameras and record depending on where I am and what my director’s instructions are, or I am a director in a production truck, where I manage a switchboard that changes what camera is on air and what graphics are being shown for viewers.
