5 Days. 900+ Volunteers. 1,500+ Answers. 300,000+ Advice Views.
Executive Summary
In a dynamic, week-long volunteer activation, CareerVillage worked with PwC’s Business Services team to host five consecutive Advice-A-Thons designed to mobilize employees at scale. More than 900 PwC professionals participated throughout the week, contributing over 1,500 pieces of personalized career advice in response to students’ questions on CareerVillage.org. Since the event kicked off in early February, that advice has already been read more than 300,000 times, demonstrating how a high-energy, strategically aligned volunteer initiative can generate immediate and far-reaching impact.
Turning Human Skills into Action
PwC’s Business Services team set out to design a large-scale volunteer activation on CareerVillage.org with an exciting goal. They wanted to create a high-energy experience that would not only engage tons of employees in meaningful service, but also reinforce the firm’s commitment to exercising essential Human Skills, including empathy, communication, coaching, and inclusion.
Together, PwC and CareerVillage built a bold plan: five Advice-A-Thons in five consecutive days. Each session invited employees to come together virtually, learn how CareerVillage works, and respond in real time to students’ career questions.
What began as a single week of activation quickly evolved into a powerful demonstration of what’s possible when corporate volunteering is intentionally aligned with business values.
A Week of Momentum
The energy was clear from the start. On day 1 alone, nearly 600 participants joined live, setting the tone for a week defined by enthusiasm, collaboration, and shared purpose.
Across the five days:
- 900+ PwC employees participated and reflected on how they utilized core human skills as they volunteered
- Collectively, the volunteers posted 1,500+ pieces of advice
- Students received guidance on a range of topics – from choosing a college major to navigating early career decisions and building workplace skills.
Internal momentum built throughout the week. Leaders amplified participation across teams. Friendly competition and peer encouragement helped sustain engagement day after day. The activation became more than a volunteer opportunity. It became a visible, firmwide moment of impact for Business Services.

Scalable Impact for Students
Each piece of advice shared by volunteers is not only delivering personalized advice to one student, it remains on the platform, accessible to thousands of young people in search of answers to similar questions.
Already, the advice shared during PwC’s activation has been read over 300,000 times by students on CareerVillage.org, a number that will only continue to grow over time as more students find their encouragement, insight and guidance!
More Than a One-Time Event
This activation was designed to be more than a standalone moment. By connecting the volunteer experience directly to PwC’s Human Skills framework, the week reinforced that answering student questions isn’t just service, it’s skill-building in action.
Crafting thoughtful responses allowed volunteers to:
- Listen carefully to diverse perspectives
- Communicate clearly and inclusively
- Offer coaching and encouragement
- Share lived experiences with empathy
The structure of the Advice-A-Thons made it easy for employees to participate, and even easier to return. So many new PwC volunteers on the platform are now set up to return to answering questions anytime!
A Model for Innovative Corporate Volunteering
By combining live engagement, leadership amplification, and digital reach, this initiative turned one week of service into lasting impact for students around the world. We’re deeply grateful to PwC’s Business Services team for their leadership and enthusiasm throughout the week, and for their commitment to expanding access to career advice for the next generation.
