The biggest challenge I think is staying consistent especially if you're in an environment where things are safe and you don't have major security breaches every second. If you want to be a security guard, it's important to build up your personal resilience and plan for the long game.

I'm about 16 years in the profession, so I feel I'm a good one to answer this for you!

Regarding the shift work, some people adjust great, while others come in absolutely miserable. The ones that do not transition well generally try to do too many other tasks on the outside and do not get enough rest while they have a break. In most places where I work(ed), mandates happen because it is a 24/7 field where coverage is essential and onsite. I've only known one person not to touch caffeine at all due to cardiac issues, but you will find people running on coffee, tea, Monster, Redbull, or any equivalent. Most 24/7 professions accept this as part of their job duties and don't think about it much. What is much more concerning is the volume of medical issues that come along with food abuse, lack of rest, and being away from home. Partners who aren't in 24/7 professions pressure their person to be home for certain days, times, and events generally don't last. Go into knowing you may be celebrating your birthday on a different day than it actually is. Go into it with the mindset that you will make more money on company holidays when fewer people are around.
