After graduating from college how would one go about getting a job in the music industry?

I am a sophmore but i have a good chance of attending Berklee college of music when i'm a senior however i'm cautious because i'm unaware of how i would put the years of knowledge i receive there into starting my career. #music-industry

No matter where you go to school, always make sure they have an internship program. That's how you get your foot in the door, especially in the music business. It used to be that you'd just hang with friends who were in bands, lug some of their gear, argue with a bouncer over the door money he collected, or sold some CDs and BOOM - You're a Manager!!! Ahhhh... those were the days... lol

Through an internship you'll meet people with whom you can start building your network. It's always your network of contacts that get you work and keep you working. If you go to Berklee, that is the Mecca for the music industry, no matter if you are into pop, classical, rap, rock, or polka music - or a performer or a business person - Berklee gets everyone's attention and their networks are strong, long standing, and invaluable. An internship through Berklee could be the start to a fantastic career in the business.

Judeanne recommends the following next steps:

Get internships as soon as you can in school - if you can, one every semester!
Network through your internships. Everyone you meet while you work your internship is a possible lead to your next job - for the next 25 years.
If you go to Berklee, everyone is a link in your network - administrators, professors, fellow students - Everyone!

Internships/networking through your schools alumni who work at companies you see yourself working at is the best way to start. The music industry is all about making connections. It’s about who you know, a lot of jobs you will get come from someone recognizing a skill you have, and recommending you for the job. So start getting your name out there! There are also online music business certification/training programs that help students get their foot in the door. Look at Tour management 101 or the app Greater Than. Hope this helps :)
