How do I begin my dancing journey once again?

Hello! Just what stretches are enough to ensure a successful dancing career? I'm a 15 year old who did ballet, jazz, tap, and African dancing at a studio when I was much younger. Recently, I've re-found my passion but am stuck on where to start again. I want to begin my journey starting at home, since my current situation does not allow me to enlist in a studio training.

Hey there,

Alright, Ro’nice, first of all—welcome back to the dance floor! Your muscles might be sitting there like, "Oh, we’re doing this again?" and the answer is a big, dramatic YES.

Start by waking up that dancer's body with some stretches. Hip openers so your legs don’t protest when you try to kick, hamstring stretches so you don’t fold like an old lawn chair, and ankle circles because no one wants to wobble mid-spin. And don’t forget some back and shoulder rolls—fluidity is the game.

Now, since a studio isn’t an option right now, your house is officially Ro’nice’s Dance Academy. Use a chair or the wall for barre exercises because balance is everything. Follow along with dance tutorials on YouTube—Matt Steffanina, Auti Kamal, and some ballet-focused channels will have you feeling like a pro again in no time. TikTok and Instagram challenges? Those count too. Freestyle daily, just put on your favorite song and move. Muscle memory is a beautiful thing, and your body will remember more than you think.

Remember, Stamina is key because dancing isn’t just about looking graceful—it’s about not passing out mid-routine. Add some cardio, core workouts, and maybe even some yoga to keep that body strong. Basically, train like you're about to go on tour, even if the stage is just your bedroom for now.

The best part? Man, Passion beats perfection every time. You already love dance, which means you're halfway there. Keep moving, keep sweating, and most importantly—have fun. This is your comeback season, and I’m here for it.
All the best and good luck!
