Hey Mehak!

Buddy, if you want to become a lawyer, you can choose any stream in 11th grade (Science, Commerce, or Arts). However, the Arts stream is often preferred because it includes subjects that help with law studies. The important subjects for law include:

1. Political Science – Helps understand the Constitution, governance, and laws.

2. History – Provides background on legal systems and historical cases.

3. English – Essential for strong communication and legal writing.

4. Economics – Useful for corporate and financial law.

5. Psychology – Helps in understanding criminal behavior and legal reasoning.

After 12th, you can pursue a 5-year integrated law course (BA LLB, BBA LLB, BCom LLB, etc.) or do a 3-year LLB after graduation in any subject.👀

Hope this helps but if you need it furthur clarified just reach out. Good luck and know you got this! 🤗

Tamara’s Answer

If you're considering becoming a lawyer/attorney, you should include high school and undergraduate studies in history, government, political science, English (language/writing/grammar), business, and/or philosophy, as these studies will give you knowledge and skills needed for law school and law practice. However, there is no mandatory curriculum necessary to get into law school or be a successful attorney.

Content-wise, political science will be the most useful in understanding government, which write, enforces, and interprets law. However, courses in business will prepare you for effective business attorney roles as well as if you want to start your own law practice. Philosophy is useful for understanding things like logic and theory. Classes in the humanities and social sciences are also helpful to gain knowledge and understnading of individuals, communities, and society. If you hope to specialize in a particular area of law, such as business, international, or finance law, for example, then classes or a major/minor in those areas are very beneficial.

Skills-wise, which is really the priority, you will need to be an effective critical thinker, writer, researcher, and oral communicator. Many classes and disciplines will help cultivate these skills.

I have been an attorney for over a decade, although that was not my planned career until after I earned my undergraduate degree. I earned my BA in history and comparative religion. The heavy emphasis on research, writing, critical thinking, and understanding of other experiences and viewpoints were excellent preparation for law school and legal practice.

Kazi’s Answer

To become a lawyer, you need to focus on some key subjects in high school, such as history, government, and English, as well as public speaking, to build a solid foundation and understand the legal system.
In college, try to take pre-law major or study subjects like criminal justice, political science, research, and analysis.
Critical thinking and communication skills are also very important to become a lawyer.

Good Luck,
